Annette ‘Annette_15’ Obrestad
Annette Obrestad is one of the most feared tournament poker players in the world thanks to her sensational reading abilities and her aggressiveness. She is a young millionaire thanks to poker, all from nothing! In this article we give you an insight into how Annette Obrestad has become such a feared and successful poker player.
Annette first discovered poker by watching it on the television, and when she saw an advertisement for an internet pokersite she decided to join. That site was Ultimate Bet and she began playing in the play-chip games at the site to learn how to play properly. She began participating in the various freeroll tournaments available at the site and eventually won a $9 tournament entry, but instead she cashed it in and began playing real-money $1 sit-and-goes. She immediately found success and was soon crushing the games as well as the multi-table tournaments.
She ground that $9 into thousands, and now it is millions!
After playing low stake tournaments for so much, Annette felt she was ready for the big tournaments and joined PokerStars which is the best internet poker site for tournaments. However, she failed to have the success she found at the lower stakes because her opponents were all more experienced players. This forced her to re-think her game and she adopted a much more aggressive style of play which made her a tricky opponent to play against.
With her new found aggression she began crushing the online tournaments, including big wins in the notoriously difficult PokerStars $100 Rebuy tourneys.
In 2007 the World Series of Poker was coming to London for the first WSOPE and Annette found herself entering the £10,000 Main Event. Only two days before her 19th birthday she took the poker world by storm to take down the prestigious star-studded event to win £1,000,000!
This incredible win launched her into the poker spotlight referring to her as one of the best female poker players in the world, especially since she was the one who eliminated female pros such as Annie Duke and Jennifer Harman.
Just six weeks after her massive win, she finished second in the 2007 EPT Dublin for $429,181 to ensure that her win certainly wasn’t a one hit wonder. This led to her being approached by various internet poker sites, but she eventually opted to sign with Betfair Poker who she continues to represent as well as playing on the site.
Most recently Annette captained Team Europe to victory over Team USA in the Caesars Cup which was another great honour for the young poker superstar. Annette continues to travel the live poker tournament scene as well as take part in televised poker events. She has also created videos for PokerVT which is one of the best poker training sites.
